Has a gene controlling for baldness been discovered? Is that what people say when they mean genetic hair loss?

In layman terms they have found a gene that in the X chromosome from (passed down from the mother) that could determine male or female pattern baldness. But genetics isn’t that simple, the gene may not be expressed and we have little information as to HOW the gene codes for baldness.

Yes, there is a gene for baldness and it can be passed down from your mother and father.

I’d agree with the above, there is little known about what the gene actually codes for, only that it is involved in things related to baldness

Well technically speaking there are variations on chromosome 20 that makes men more likely to go bald, even if their parents have full heads of hair. Depending the variation on that gene, it can 4x or 7x more likely etc.

It shouldn’t matter if its genetic in all honesty. Youre still trying to influence the part you can.
